Where am I going to dance tonight? by David van Hemelryck

As any dancer, it was my turn to face the problem.

Usually I had invitations, or I would search the internet.

I was abroad… I knew in my country there were some websites, usually not up to date… Or sometimes I would discover that I had even missed some invitations on facebook. But this was different, I was in a foreign country of which I didn’t understand the language nor the habits. Searching facebook was not easy at the time, now it was even worse!

I knew there was dance app which used to list parties “everywhere” but it had stopped to work… I had even called the developer and he wasn’t really listening to any suggestions.

So I had to find a party wherever and from there ask people. And that’s what I did. Dancers, they know…

Then as I am a crazy dancer I had another “wonderful idea”. You see, I have this crazy fantasy about people dancing anywhere and everywhere. After all, people smoke in the street, drink in the street, kiss in the street… why don’t they dance in the street ? Oh, sure, the police might complain about the noise. So, my plan was to make an app where people could connect to SYNCHRONIZED music so they can dance exactly on the beat, each listening to earphones from his own smartphone, therefore dancing “silently”.

BINGO: now I have a giant party possible EVERYWHERE.

As a side service, we would also help the dancer to find other dancers. After all, in a party, there’s not only music, there are also and more importantly, dancers. So getting in a party is getting access to the possibility of INVITING OTHER DANCERS.

And I started talking friends about my ideas, and interviewing them on priorities. It seemed that obviously, getting to be with other dancers was much more important that the technical innovation of synchronized music for silent parties. Some dancers don’t mind putting some music on the street, and soon smartphones will be able to broadcast to 2 bluetooth devices, therefore putting music in the ears of my dancers. The real value of a service would still be to say “where are the dancers”.

And I resolved to do just that. Then, just as I had a mind about getting on the project by myself, I remember praying (yes I did that, like, just a little “Please”) to meet an associate, if ever there was one to meet. And weirdly, the same evening I was meeting with Aleksey, crazy developer and dancer.

ON WITH THE APPLICATION!

So now I have share this crazy project with Alex. The world as a gigantic Dance Club where you can easily meet dancers and share a dance. A friendly place with people sharing the ethics of dance. And for getting in this dance club as large as the world, you just need a Dance Card.
